COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Active Isolated Stretching techniques can be used to restore a client’s optimal ROM.

The program was developed by world-renowned kinesiotherapist Aaron Mattes. Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) uses guided active movements with assisted end-range stretching in order to activate weakened muscles and break up fascial restrictions. In this class, students will learn and understand how to apply isolated stretches to joints and muscles throughout the body. Students will have the opportunity to assess joint mobility and function and then apply the principles of AIS in order to restore/increase ROM. The class features a strengthening segment (using concepts similar to physical therapy programs) to help students give their clients a series of concentric/eccentric contractions to stretch tissue and strengthen neural pathways after an AIS treatment. AIS is ideal for helping clients with restricted ROM post surgery/injury, is safe and gentle enough to work with seniors, and can enhance athletic performance.

What you will learn:

  • Dozens of Active Isolated Stretches and how to perform the techniques on yourself & on other people.
  • How to work with (rather than override) the myotatic stretch reflex.
  • How performing a series of rhythmic repetitions is conducive to oxygenation, elasticity and healing, and the fascial benefits of such exercises to restore your client’s optimal ROM.
  • How to describe AIS when talking with clients.
  • The optimal body mechanics while assisting clients with AIS.
  • The vocabulary to guide clients in performing AIS.
  • The ability to assess the range of motion needs for unique individuals and sports teams and then to design and implement the appropriate programs for clients and groups.
