Myo Story

The Myo Institute was founded in 2019 by clinical bodyworkers Levi Cory and Catherine Collett.  The development of the core concepts and ideas that would establish the Institute started in 2006 when Levi and Catherine opened Myo Massage in a small studio on Austin’s East Side. Myo’s mission was to create a resource for high-quality, effective massage in Austin by gathering and nurturing a community of the best Austin massage therapists.  Even though each therapist had a different set of skills and backgrounds, Myo was determined to create a consistent experience for the client. Catherine and Levi derived that consistency was achieved by hiring therapists who focused on productive, precise, and consistent therapeutic work. And that became the Myo difference.

As we established ourselves in the Austin community, we began to develop mentorship programs and in-house training for our therapists. One of the most difficult things that a massage therapist has to learn is the art of touch. How do you touch someone in a therapeutic way and achieve a result for the client? How can you use your skills to be most effective? What techniques do you use? Our mentorships and in-house trainings were formed from these questions. Our technique programs have been designed to teach every therapist a structured way to touch a client and apply techniques.

At the Myo Institute, we recognize that there is more to a massage session than just applying pressure and techniques. There are other factors: communication skills, your knowledge and information, biomechanics, making the right assessments.  Our Myo Method Series and Clinical Skills CEUs teach you how to use information about client diseases, identify disorders, engage the right layers when applying a technique and how to make an assessment about a client’s structure that is accurate. We also teach therapist biomechanics and embrace multiple approaches to each technique to protect your body so you can continue to work for many years to come.   Clients will rebook with you treatment after treatment because an excellent therapist has a balance of both high-level touch skills and great communication skills.

We created The Myo Method system of training for massage therapists because we saw a need to train our own therapists.  By adding curriculum for techniques, skills and communication we were instructing therapists how to execute a technique in the right layer and be able to discuss the process with the client. Every technique is taught so that you come to understand how to touch the client, not just follow a routine. Plus, you gain the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with regards to core issues and treatment plans. The Myo Method’s approach allows you to go deeper in all aspects of your bodywork practice.

We are excited to bring our brand of massage training to the bodywork community at large, so reserve a class today and see how it can transform your career.
